This helps distance yourself from prior expectations and think about problems in a new way, so don’t skip it! After brainstorming, you can research these topics more by reading articles and asking people about their experiences. 

The goal here is to do enough preliminary work so that when you have an idea (or nugget) pop into your head during non-creative times of day (like walking your dog or doing dishes), you know what steps to take next. 

Once you get started on something, focus as much as possible until it’s done.
